Task 3 - File sharing article

http://www.digitaltrends.com/music/illegal-file-sharing-isnt-stealing-heres-why/

This article they are saying that people who say illegal streaming is stealing are wrong, because stealing is depriving someone of something, in this case the item has not been physically taken from the person; but instead a copy has been made. In the article they are suggesting that the person hasn’t lost anything because the music is still in their possession. Although it is wrong because in this case what the artist is losing is money, which you owe them for entertaining you. In the article they talk about how the word stealing is too much of a strong word to be used for such a small case and that it should be labelled as ‘trespassing’ or ‘unauthorised access’. They also suggest that streaming isn’t illegal because that is a term used for material things. In 1962, the prestigious American Law Institute issued the Model Penal Code, resulting in the confused state of theft law we’re still dealing with today. According to an earlier submission of the law, the code defined “property” to refer to “anything of value”, and because it is now on the internet it belongs to everyone.
